TALENTS

 

I was always told to stick to one talent, but I always thought that I am destined to be multi talented. Is it a bad thing to be exceptional at many talents? I am not quite sure, but now days it is rare for people to do just one thing at least that’s how I feel. I am sorry that I do not fit your mold, wait I am not sorry. I am not going to apologize for being me and doing things that I love.

I believe the word to describe us as Emilie from Puttylike would use is multipotentialite what does that mean exactly? “A multipotentialite is a person who has many different interests and creative pursuits in life. Multipotentialites have no “one true calling” the way specialists do. Being a multipotentialite is our destiny. We have many paths and we pursue all of them, either sequentially or simultaneously (or both). Multipotentialites thrive on learning, exploring, and mastering new skills. When it comes to new interests that emerge, our insatiable curiosity leads us to absorb everything we can get our hands on. I would think that being great at many things means you then become more valuable to someone else. I never really could stick to one thing growing up so I do not know why people think they can change this fact about me. This is the way God made me I have to accept it.

If no one else can accept this than they are not supposed to understand your vision, move on there’s more people out there that will understand your vision and believe in your success. Just make sure you put gods kingdom first and everything else will follow.

What does the bible say about having multiple talents?

The gifts that we have been given are not just ours they also belong to God. God gave them to us for the purpose of putting HIM first and serving other people.

We all have something to give. We can give our money and our time to volunteer for a worthy cause, be a friend to someone who is sick or lonely,or be a peacemaker, teacher or minister.  Some of us may choose an occupation that is service based. We may just do our everyday jobs with a humble heart and respect for others. We also may receive gifts that are of the creative side of the world.

Apostle Paul said this:

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. ” (NIV, Romans 12:5-8)

In His Parable of the Talents, Jesus taught that we must use our gifts carefully. A talent was a very large sum of money, about 80 pounds (36 kg) of silver. Before leaving on a journey, a very wealthy man trusted his wealth to his servants for a brief time that he will be away. Two of the servants used the money carefully to earn income for their master. However, the third servant did not put the money to good use, and the master was very upset with this matter. The parable is written below:

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

“The man with the two talents also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

“Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

“‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (NIV, Matthew 25:14-30)

The master represents God in this parable, and the servants represent us. The English word talent, meaning our natural abilities, is derived from this parable. It would make sense that that is the case behind this. The lesson of this parable is that we must use our talents and abilities, as well as our wealth, in God’s service.

If we do not use our talents for the greater good of God than he will be upset with us, and consider us to be of the world and not of him.

One might think that if we give more than what we have we lose more but I believe that you can get true blessings and wealth from using your talents and sharing them with others. Service to others brings a deeper meaning to life that just having money, power can not buy.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (TNIV, Luke 6:38)

If singers can become actors and than have there own clothing line, be dancers than why cant I have many talents and businesses in fields that I wish to be in.

We are all unique and special in our own ways and it may take us a while to figure out what are talent and purpose is for each of these talents but we are all important to the kingdom of God and ensuring that his will on earth is done. We are not of the world we are of God.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (NRSV, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
