Many of us spend a lifetime chasing after dreams only to find emptiness in their accomplishment. Others never really make it to their dreams and leave themselves to failure. Dream chasing is only relevant when it is rooted in God’s calling in your life. When God triggers a dream in your heart, you will not be able to let it go – you will chase it until God’s purpose has been fulfilled.
Dreams are considered to be goals and visions that fire your heart and saturates your soul with joy at the very thought of them, in the eyes of the God. Your destiny and reason for living is wrapped up tightly in your dreams and desires. Your dream is that vision for your life that burns inside of you which can’t top down or ignore for long. It keeps coming back because it is a part who you are.
God designed every member of the human race to have dreams. They are a way of finding fulfilment. The Bible says, “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done” (Ecclesiastes 11:4).
If you wait for perfect conditions to follow your calling, you’ll never get started. Things won’t settle down. Wait until you get out of debt before tithing, and you’ll never get back on your feet financially.
“Now may the God of peace…equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work us what is pleasing to him” (Hebrews 13:20-21)
David was far from the comforts of his home and the king’s palace when he was on the run. He had to learn how to his way through treacherous territories and the Lord always provided a place for David to hide. He was provided food and provisions through Abigail, his future wife. When Saul was close to capturing David, the Lord provided the distraction with the Philistines in battle. God knows what we need and when we it when we are making our way towards our dreams. (1 Samuel 22:5, 25:18)
A dream cannot be built on ego. It cannot be built on tradition–because the company expects it or your family expects it. None of these foundations will support your dream.
You must build your dreams on something that will last. Only two things in the entire world will last forever: truth and people. Heaven and earth will pass away, but God’s Word will never pass away. You have to build your dream on that never-changing foundation.
David wasn’t perfect before, during, or after he was crowned king; however the Scriptures support that he was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22) David was faithful tending the sheep when God planted the seed of purpose in his heart. We can be faithfully going about our daily business when God suddenly awakens our hearts to a greater purpose. The chasing of dreams will be filled with moments of joy and distress; yet it will be worth it when we receive the crown of life from our father.
