INTERCESSION OR INTERCESSORY PRAYER, WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO PRAY FOR SOMEONE? AND HOW POWERFUL CAN INTERCESSORY PRAYER BE?
Sometimes life may come to someone you worry about so as to question the ability of anyone to cope. When your actions, or theirs, have no power to change these circumstances, all you can offer is your presence, concerns and prayers.
But when you say to person, “My thoughts and prayers are with you,” or “I will keep you in my prayers,” what does it really mean? And what does this person want when they ask me to call me back in my prayers?
We all have different hopes and expectations because we have different experiences of prayer. What it means to pray for someone.
It recognizes the crisis and pain in your life
It says you are worried about the person, you are with person in his suffering, and you will not forget the person when they separate
It recognizes that your lives are subjected to things they can’t control and that they share these position of vulnerability
It reminds them that they have access to the spiritual strength that helps them see their selves through difficulties that life brings
it points to an interconnected network of life strong enough to contain suffering and still hold beauty, meaning and love
He promises you are not alone.
Prayer is the most powerful force known to mankind. Because we were made partakers in Jesus’ victory over sin and death (1 John 4: 4), we have authority as sons and daughters of God to pray for others, repelling the darkness of sin and oppression. In prayer, we have a weapon that has the divine power to destroy fortresses “(2 Corinthians 10: 4).
This kind of weaponry – the power of prayer – is something that God invites us to use as we seek not only personal transformation, but also the transformation of the world. An intercessor is one who takes on a “burden” that goes far beyond his own needs and intentions.
And those who take the call to intercession come to learn more deeply that the sufferings of the present time can’t be compared to the joy that will come as the designs of God unfold. They learn to trust the Lord because they have lived in prayer how God is infinitely compassionate. Intercessors participate in God’s magnificent plan to elevate humanity to participate in the divine life. This intuition leads them to engage in a spiritual battle against forces that seek to destroy God’s plans.
Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to pray in union with the spirit of God. Take the words of St. Paul to heart: “The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should, but this Spirit intercedes … for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8). : 26-27). And above all, ask God to give you the confidence that he hears your prayers and wants to respond to the deep needs of those around you.
